  • Green Capital Power, a company belonging to the Spanish Capital Energy group, forges ahead with its ambitious plan to construct wind farms in Western Asturias.

The Company has now commenced the procedures to install eight wind turbines with a total power of 30 MW in the districts of Illano and Boal. Capital Energy has 488 MW of wind power in development or in the pipeline in Asturias, which is almost equivalent to the total installed power in the region (518 MW distributed over 23 wind farms in the west).

The Company has 488 MW of wind turbines in development or in the pipeline, almost the same as the installed power in the region.

The new wind farm that the group intends to develop is known as Gamotal and will be located in the A Bobia, Casafallande and A Cruz del Pico areas, in the districts of Illano and Boal. It will consist of 8 wind turbines, with 3,750 kW power each one.

Green Capital Power submitted the application for administrative permission for the installations to the Principality in April. The Regional Department for Industry, having ensured that the application met the legal requirements, opened a timeline for submission of new applications in competition for the location and, as none were received, gave the green light to the application by Green Capital Power, which is one of the most active wind farm developers in Asturias in the last few years.

Last month it also obtained authorisation from the Principality to process the projects for another four new wind farms, in districts in the west, totalling 97.5 MW.
