This facility has enabled the creation of 10 permanent jobs for local professionals

  • The event, which was held on site, was attended by the non-executive chairman of the company, Juan Lasala, the director in Castilla y León, Víctor Fernández, and the Las Tadeas site manager, Sergio Villarán. The mayors of the towns where this renewable energy facility is located were also in attendance, Luis Antonio Calderón (Paredes de Nava) and Francisco Javier Velasco (Cardeñosa de Volpejera).
  •  The 11 wind turbines at what is Capital Energy's first wind farm in Castilla y León will be capable of supplying clean energy to more than 52,000 homes and preventing the annual emission of more than 55,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. Moreover, Las Tadeas will have an annual economic impact on the local coffers (mainly property tax and trade tax), as well as from lease agreements, of more than €330,000.
  •  Capital Energy considers the community of Castile and Leon key to its renewable energy project, as it is developing over 3,350 megawatt (MW), both from wind -36 farms that add up to over 2,760 MW- and solar, nine solar plants with a joint power of 590 MW.

Palencia, 23 June 2021.- Capital Energy, Spanish energy Company founded in 2002 with the aim of becoming the first vertically-integrated 100%-renewable energy operator on the Iberian Peninsula, continues to move forward to ensure the development of its clean energy project with the inauguration of its first wind farm: Las Tadeas.

The renewable energy facility, located in the province of Palencia, has an installed power of 39 megawatts (MW) and its development involves an investment of around €40,000,000.

The wind farm inauguration event, which was held this morning on site, was attended by the non-executive chairman of the company, Juan Lasala, the director in Castile and Leon, Víctor Fernández, and the Las Tadeas site manager, Sergio Villarán. The mayors of the towns where this renewable energy facility is located were also in attendance, Luis Antonio Calderón (Paredes de Nava) and Francisco Javier Velasco (Cardeñosa de Volpejera).

The eleven wind turbines in the first Capital Energy wind farm, model SG 132 by Siemens Gamesa, will be capable of supplying close to 138,000-megawatt hour (MWh) of clean energy per year, equivalent to the consumption of around 52,000 homes in the Castile and Leon region, and also preventing the annual emission of more than 55,000 tonnes of COinto the atmosphere.

Construction of the Las Tadeas wind farm created around 220 jobs. The operation and maintenance stages, which began in the fourth quarter last year, created 10 permanent jobs for local professionals.

Moreover, the plant will have an annual economic impact on the regional (environmental compensation measures) and local coffers (mainly property tax and trade tax), as well as from lease agreements, of more than €330,000. The one-off payment of €850,000 for the tax on construction, installations and building works (ICIO), was added to this recurring sum.

Castile and Leon, a key region for the company

Castile and Leon is a key region in Capital Energy’s project for clean energy development. The company produces over 3,350 megawatts (MW), from both wind (2,760 MW) and solar (590 MW), in this autonomous community, where one of its main strengths is the quality of its renewable resources. The commissioning of this entire capacity entails a global investment of around €3.3 billion.

Apart from Las Tadeas, Capital Energy currently has 45 renewable energy projects in Castile and Leon, 36 wind and nine solar, spread over seven of the nine provinces. Avila, Valladolid, Zamora, Leon, Palencia, Burgos and Soria. Furthermore, over half of the company’s renewable initiatives will have a positive impact on the so-called areas of influence of the fair transition.

Capital Energy has an office in Valladolid, where a dozen professionals work. It is in the process of opening additional offices in several cities of Castile and Leon, where residents of the municipalities where the company is promoting its wind farms and solar farms will work.

A portfolio of more than 38 GW on the Iberian Peninsula

In line with its commitment to a green and fair energy transition, Capital Energy currently has a portfolio of wind and solar projects in the Iberian Peninsula with around 38 gigawatts (GW) of capacity, of which more than 8.5 GW have already received network access grants.

Thanks to the launch of its retail arm in the final quarter of 2020, Capital Energy reached its strategic aim of being present on the entire renewable energy value chain: from development, where, given its 20-year history, the Company has a consolidated position, to construction, production, storage, operation and supply.

The aim of the Company, which has grown from 30 employees to more than 370 in the last three years, distributed throughout 14 offices in Spain and Portugal, is to deliver to the end consumer the 100%-renewable energy that it is already producing at its facilities.
