Ampere Energy and Capital Energy partner to promote the figure of the demand aggregator

By: Capital Energy · 05 Jul 2022

Within the framework of the commitment of these two Spanish companies to sustainability and digitisation

  • This new figure, which will be decisive in accelerating the transition towards a decarbonised energy model, will make it possible to provide greater flexibility to the electricity market and more power to the consumer
  • Both companies launch a project consisting of replicating the figure of the demand aggregator in a simulated market on a real environment and issuing requests for proposals in the market on an hourly basis from the Virtual Power Plant (VPP)

Madrid, 5 July 2022.- Ampere Energy, company specialised in the design, development and manufacture of smart energy and storage management systems (SEMS), and Capital Energy, energy company founded two decades ago and whose vocation is to become the first vertically-integrated, 100% renewable operator on the Iberian Peninsula, have signed a partnership agreement to launch a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) pilot project with smart distributed storage.

Within the framework of the commitment of both Spanish companies to sustainability and digitisation, Capital Energy and Ampere Energy are going to promote, in this way, the development of the figure of the independent demand aggregator, whose objective is to provide flexibility to network operators by relying on Virtual Power Plants (VPP) with smart storage.

Capital Energy already has energy storage systems in some of its offices in Spain, which constitute an ideal platform for this project. The tests will consist of representing the figure of the demand aggregate in this environment and issuing requests for proposals in the market on an hourly basis from the VPP.

For its part, Ampere Energy has a comprehensive solution to support local energy communities (Amperia Communities) and any collective self-consumption formula. In this respect, it designs, develops and manufactures smart storage equipment and software solutions for the management of energy communities and provides support for the different actors in the grid.

For both companies, the adequate regulation of demand aggregation will allow the proactive participation of consumers in the electricity system, increasing its manageability. Smart energy storage and management systems play a vital role in the management of VPPs, since they make it possible to increase the flexibility of consumption points. In this way, consumers acquire a more active and relevant role in the transition towards a decarbonised energy model.

This project is part of the AliCE R&D&I smart storage initiative , which, promoted by Capital Energy, seeks to analyse the operation of this technology in its different areas of application, both with regard to end user (residential and industrial) consumption and the integration of renewable energy in the grid. Thanks to this initiative, Capital Energy reaffirms its commitment to offering new energy solutions to its customers through the self-consumption and storage areas.
