Avanzan las obras del parque eólico de Capital Energy Buseco

Capital Energy's wind farm in Asturias, Buseco, is progressing.

  • With 15 MW of installed power, this facility will be capable of supplying 41,265 MWh of clean energy per year, enough to supply more than 17,000 homes, preventing the annual emission of more than 16,500 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
  •  The Pico Liebres construction will entail an investment of close to €11,000,000, will lead to the creation of around 90 jobs and it will have an annual economic impact on the local coffers, as well as through lease contracts, of around €85,000.
  • This renewable energy installation, located in Picos Liebres, Piniella and Fontes-Tineo, already had the pertinent environmental authorisations -Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Impact Report- and the permits to access and connect to the grid.

Oviedo, 29th July 2021.- Capital Energy a Spanish energy company founded in 2002 with the aim of becoming the first vertically-integrated 100%-renewable energy operator on the Iberian Peninsula, continues to move forward to ensure the development of its clean energy project in Asturias.

The Council for Industry, Employment and Economic Development of the Principality has granted the company the prior administrative authorisation for its second wind-farm in the community: Pico Liebres. With this milestone, the project, which already had both the pertinent environmental authorisations -Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Impact Report- as well as the permits to access and connect to the grid, is only lacking the administrative authorisation to build, which will enable it to apply for the construction and installation license.

This Asturian wind-farm by Capital Energy, which will share the electricity evacuation infrastructure with the Buseco wind-farm, also owned by the company, will have an installed capacity of 15 megawatts (MW) and will entail an investment of close to €11,000,000.

Its three wind turbines, with 5 MW of unit power, will be capable of supplying 41,265 megawatts hour (MWh) of clean energy, enough to supply more than 17,000 homes in the community, preventing the annual emission of more than 16,500 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Pico Liebres, located in the municipalities of Picos Liebres, Piniella and Fontes-Tineo will also lead to the creation of more than 90 jobs during its construction stage (3 in the operation phase) and will have an annual financial impact on local coffers (property tax and trade tax), and also through leasing agreements, of more than €85,000.

The one-time payment of the Tax on Constructions, Installations and Works, which will amount to €369,000, is added to these recurring fees, as well as another one-time payment for easements of way, amounting to over €48,500.

Capital Energy's firm commitment to Asturias

Capital Energy considers Asturias as a key region for the development of its ambitious clean energy project. The company already has 35 wind projects under development in the region, which together add up to almost 1,300 megawatts (MW) of power. Over half of these are located in the areas of influence of the fair transition agreements.

The construction, start up and subsequent operation of this portfolio could create around 7,700 jobs annually in the construction phase and around 270 jobs in the generation phase, along with potential income for the municipal and regional coffers of more than €34,000,000 during the execution of works and more than €7,000,000 per annum during the service life of the facilities.

The Company has already begun work on its first Asturian wind farm, Buseco, located in the municipalities of Tineo, Villayón and Valdés, which, with an installed capacity of 50 MW, will entail an investment of around €51,000,000 and will be capable of supplying clean energy to 54,000 homes in the region.

On the other hand, Capital Energy recently signed a collaboration agreement with the Asturian group Isastur, which specialises in the construction of infrastructures for the energy sector, strengthening the industrial relationship that both companies already have.

Capital Energy has been recognised as the Best Company to Work at in Asturias, and placed in the Ranking of Best Workplaces Asturias 2021 by Great Place to Work.

A portfolio of more than 35 GW on the Iberian Peninsula

In line with its commitment to a green and fair energy transition, Capital Energy currently has a portfolio of wind and solar projects in the Iberian Peninsula with around 35 gigawatts (GW) of capacity, of which more than 8.7 GW have already received network access grants.

Thanks to the launch of its retail arm in the final quarter of 2020, Capital Energy reached its strategic aim of being present on the entire renewable energy value chain: from development, where, given its 20-year history, the Company has a consolidated position, to construction, production, storage, operation and supply.

The aim of the Company, which has more than 385 employees distributed throughout 15 offices in Spain and Portugal, is to deliver to the end consumer the 100%-renewable energy that it is already producing at its facilities.
