Capital Energy moves ahead in its processing of Joluga, its first wind farm in Navarra, with a capacity of 24 MW
The Directorate-General for the Environment of the Regional Government of Navarra has granted this clean energy infrastructure the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
- After achieving this administrative milestone, this renewable facility and its transport infrastructure only need to obtain prior administrative authorisations and administrative building authorisations to apply for the corresponding building and installation licences.
- The five wind turbines of this wind farm in Navarra will produce enough to provide almost 25,000 homes in Navarra with clean electricity each year, and avoid the emission into the atmosphere of over 24,000 tons of CO2
- Joluga will create around 78 direct jobs during peak construction periods, mobilise an investment of more than 20 million euros, and produce an economic impact on local coffers of around 100,000 euros each year.
Pamplona, 13 October 2022.- Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company established two decades ago that seeks to become the first vertically-integrated 100% renewable energy operator in the Iberian peninsula, has taken a fundamental step towards strengthening its clean energy project in Navarra.
The Directorate-General for the Environment of the Regional Government of Navarra has granted the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to Joluga, the first wind farm in the region, which will be built in the municipalities of Sllava and Ezprogui. After achieving this important administrative milestone, the project faces a decisive stage in its processing, needing only to obtain authorisation for activities on land protected from development, prior administrative authorisation, and administrative building authorisation to apply for a building and installation licence.
Joluga will have an installed capacity of 24 megawatts (MW), divided into five wind turbines with an individual capacity of 4.8 MW. Every year, this wind farm will generate around 60,000 megawatt hours (MWh), which is enough to provide almost 25,000 homes in Navarra with clean electricity, and avoid the emission into the atmosphere of over 24,000 tons of CO2.
Its construction will mobilise an investment of over 20 million euros and create around 78 jobs during peak construction periods. In the operation and maintenance phase, it will provide permanent employment to three local professionals and will also contribute to the creation of two indirect jobs.
Moreover, every year and throughout its useful life, the wind farm will contribute about 100,000 euros to the local coffers and contribute to the GDP with over 480,000 euros. A one-off payment of the ICIO tax on building, installations and other works in excess of 500,000 euros will be added to this recurring amount.
Capital Energy committed to the social and economic development of Navarra
Capital Energy has already signed collaboration agreements linked to its Territories Project with the two towns where this renewable facility is to be built -Eslava and Ezprogui- and with three of the five in which its transport infrastructure will be located -Ezprogui, Leache and Lumbier-, although it is also offering the remaining two -Aibar and Sada- similar agreements. Through this different initiative, the company is keep to articulate its commitment to sustainable development, becoming yet another neighbour in the regions where it operates, and contributing to their social and economic growth.
To achieve this, it is committed to allocating specific financial items during the construction and operation phases of its renewable energy facilities to implementing the actions agreed to with the different local stakeholders. This different approach will see the group consider the specificities and needs of each region in the selection of initiatives.
Through these actions, Capital Energy aims to pair the development of its renewable energy projects in Spain and Portugal with the launch of social and environmental action programmes pivoted to local needs to fully leverage its contribution to the socioeconomic progress of the places where it operates.
In addition to Joluga, Capital Energy is promoting another wind farm in Navarra, Los Corrales, which will be located in Olite, Pitillas and Ujué and will have a capacity of around 85 MW. In fact, the company has signed another agreement linked to the Territories Project with the latter town.
