Capital Energy is to install the largest solar power plant for self-consumption at LaFinca Business Park

By: Capital Energy · 14 Feb 2022

For Gregorio Mednik, director of Energy Management and New Energy Solutions at Capital Energy, and Jesús García Tello, director of Transformation at the LaFinca Group.

With the capacity to cover more than 30% of the energy consumption of the LaFinca business park

  • The agreement signed between the two companies confirms their commitment to sustainable development and to the environment
  • Capital Energy is to install almost 2,100 state-of-the-art panels, totalling nearly 1 MW of solar power, in the 12 buildings of the LaFinca business park in Pozuelo de Alarcón
  • The photovoltaic facility, which will be fully operational in June, will be able to prevent the annual emission into the atmosphere of around 290 tons of CO2, a figure equivalent to that achieved by replanting half the length of Madrid’s El Retiro park with trees.

Madrid, 14 February 2022.- Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company established two decades ago that seeks to become the first vertically-integrated 100% renewable energy operator in the Iberian peninsula, and LaFinca, a leading company in the development of premium real estate projects, have signed a contract to ensure their firm commitment to sustainable development and the environment.

Capital Energy is to install the largest rooftop solar power plant for self-consumption to date in a Spanish business centre at LaFinca Business Park. The installation at the LaFinca business park in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) will be able to supply more than 30% of all its long-term energy requirements, with significant savings.

Capital Energy will install 2,084 state-of-the-art solar panels with a unit capacity of 455 Wp on the 5,100 square metres of roofing on the 12 buildings at the LaFinca office complex. The total solar power that LaFinca will have will amount to almost 1 MW (948 kWp), capable of generating around 1,375 MWh of clean energy per year.

One of the most notable features of this renewable energy infrastructure for self-consumption will be its real-time performance monitoring and control system, including via mobile devices, which will encourage the best decisions to increase the site’s energy efficiency.

The photovoltaic facility, which is to be fully operational next June, will prevent the annual emission into the atmosphere of around 290 tons of CO2, a figure equivalent to that achieved by replanting half the length of Madrid’s El Retiro park with trees or removing almost 4,170 cars from the road.

Capital Energy will also be responsible for the preventive maintenance of this self-consumption installation.

For Gregorio Mednik, director of Energy Management and New Energy Solutions at Capital Energy, “through this agreement with such a relevant customer as LaFinca to provide a pioneering installation in Spain, not only because of its size but also because of the cutting-edge technology that it will use, we are confirming our support for promoting self-consumption through sources of renewable electricity generation as part of our commitment to the energy transition”.

Jesús García Tello, director of Transformation at the LaFinca Group, said that “the LaFinca team is working in all areas to create value for customers and shareholders. We pay attention to the impact our activity has on people and the environment. This agreement is true to our commitment to minimise the impact that may be had on the environment and to the support for integrating sustainability into the development and asset repositioning processes”.
