Capital Energy Quantum is investing one million euros in the startup Stemy Energy
The group’s corporate venturing vehicle has a budget of 20 million until 2025 to promote disruptive projects that transform the energy sector
- Stemy has a software platform that uses advanced artificial intelligence to connect consumers and reduce their bill and their carbon footprint, thus boosting optimisation of the electricity market
- Quantum aims to strengthen the growth of this startup and its position as a leader in its segment, as this operation will enable it to increase its structure and make additional investments in order to speed up its deployment in Spain and in the United Kingdom
- This Capital Energy fund has already worked with different companies, such as HESStec, Solum, Chargy, Liight and Voltaware, and has launched two open innovation challenges in Galicia and Castilla y Leon to contribute to the growth of startups in both regions
Madrid, 31 October 2022.- Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company established two decades ago that seeks to become the first vertically-integrated 100% renewable operator in the Iberian peninsula, continues to strengthen the central role that the innovation-ecological energy transition partnership plays in its strategy.
Hence, through its corporate venturing vehicle, Quantum, the group has invested one million euros in Stemy Energy, a startup created in 2018 to promote the reduction of both the energy bill of end customers and their carbon footprint, fostering an increase in renewable generation and helping provide stability to the energy system.
To achieve this, this start-up has software that uses could-based advanced artificial intelligence to connect users, enabling them to actively participate in the markets responsible for providing stability to the electrical system. Through this technology, Stemy aggregates and manages demand from diverse consumers to ensure a reduction in their bills and their carbon footprint, thus boosting the efficiency of the electricity market. In essence, the platform prioritises the local generation of renewable energy, minimising the losses of electricity resources and helping reduce dependence on gas by moderating consumption peaks.
Through this commitment, Capital Energy Quantum seeks to secure the growth of Stemy Energy and its position as leader of its segment. In fact, through this funding round, the startup will be able to increase its structure and make additional investments to speed up its deployment in markets such as Spain and the United Kingdom.
Álvaro Sánchez Miralles, CEO of Stemy Energy, said that, “thanks to this operation, Stemy expects to multiply its impact by 10 over the coming two years, and achieve an efficient company structure ready for major internationalisation”.
Erika Escolar Eguia, director of Capital Energy Quantum, said: “We believe in the Stemy team and technology, and are very happy to be able to accompany them in this phase of expansion, multiplying the social and environmental impact of their project. In today’s world, solutions to optimise energy consumption and save costs for the final consumer are key.”
Capital Energy’s corporate venturing vehicle has already collaborated with startups such as Liight, Voltaware and Chargy on initiatives that promote energy efficiency, end-customer relationships, and sustainable behaviour, with the pioneering company developing energy management systems and hybrid storage solutions HESStec and the Andalusian tech company Solum, which promotes a photovoltaic charging solution for light electric vehicles such as scooters. It has also launched open innovation challenges in Galicia and Castilla y Leon to help in the growth of startups in both regions.
Quantum: €20 million to transform the energy sector
With €20 million, Quantum, presented by Capital Energy at the end of 2020, seeks to identify a portfolio of EnergyTech startups in Spain and Portugal with the potential to transform the energy sector, reach agreements, and invest in them in the coming years. To this end, the company is exploring different avenues, such as partnership (Venture Client), direct investment (Venture Capital), and the launch of open innovation challenges.
Capital Energy Quantum is part of the group's strategic commitment to boost entrepreneurship and generate a vast network of knowledge and talent in the Spanish energy market. It also contributes to supporting the company's territorial strategy, boosting the local industrial network and fostering innovation in all its aspects.
