  • Initiative combines company’s contribution to decarbonising the economy and transforming the energy model through the commissioning of renewable energy facilities with its desire to promote regional growth by leveraging local talent and bolstering the social, industrial and business network
  • Building Praderas Altas and Hazapierna, in the municipal areas of Viana de Duero, Nepas, Coscurita and Escobosa de Almazán, will create 380 jobs in peak construction periods and mobilise investment of €120 million

Soria, 21 November 2022.- Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company founded two decades ago and which aims to become the first vertically integrated 100% renewable operator on the Iberian peninsula, is again shoring up its commitment to the socioeconomic development of Castilla y Leon, a vital community for the implementation of its clean energy project.

The company has signed two new collaboration agreements in the region with the local councils of Taroda and Almaluez (Soria province), linked to its Territories Project that combines its contribution to decarbonising the economy and transforming the energy model with its desire to promote the growth of the different regions by leveraging local talent and bolstering the social, industrial and business network of each area.

Through these agreements and with the construction of the 132 kV high-voltage line linking the Hazapierna and Medinaceli substations and transporting the clean energy generated by the Hazapierna and Praderas Altas wind farms, Capital Energy undertakes to promote different actions agreed to between the parties that will be adapted to the needs of these localities. The infrastructure will also pass through the municipalities of Coscurita, Escobosa de Almazan, Nepas, Soliedra, Morón de Almazán, Arcos de Jalón -with whose town council the company signed a similar agreement- and Medinaceli.

In both cases, the implemented initiatives will be part of specific lines of action, including the improvement of infrastructures and services, connectivity and digitisation; the protection of artistic and cultural heritage, education and health; and the social and labour integration of disadvantaged groups. Some proposals beneficial to the inhabitants of the municipalities are already being considered, such as restoring the municipal pavement and replacing the weighing scale in Aguaviva de la Vega, in the case of Almaluez, and improving the energy efficiency of public buildings in the case of Taroda.

The partnership between the councils and the renewable energy group will also continue throughout the operating and maintenance phase of the infrastructures with the rollout of actions that meet the above requirements. Through these agreements, all parties reaffirm their interest in contributing to the sustainable development of Taroda and Almaluez through actions that ensure the effective improvement of their inhabitants’ quality of life and the environment.

The Hazapierna wind farm will be located in the municipalities of Viana de Duero, Nepas and Coscurita, in Soria, and have an access capacity of 49.5 megawatts (MW). It will be able to produce more than 160,000 megawatt hours (MWh) per year, enough to provide around 62,000 households with clean electricity while preventing the emission of more than 61,000 tonnes of CO2.

The Praderas Altas wind farm in the municipalities of Viana de Duero, Nepas, Coscurita and Escobosa de Almazán will also have a capacity of 49.5 MW, generating around 170,000 MWh of clean energy per year, equivalent to the consumption of around 65,000 homes. It will prevent the annual emission into the atmosphere of approximately 64,000 tonnes of CO2.

The construction of these wind farms and their evacuation line will create 380 direct jobs in peak periods and mobilise an investment of around €120 million. In the operating and maintenance phases it will provide permanent employment to 14 local workers and create around 10 indirect jobs.

Every year during their useful lives, the facilities will have a tax impact of nearly €13 million on the local coffers, which will also receive the one-off payment of the ICIO tax on building, installations and other works and other taxes in excess of €3 million. Hazapiernas and Praderas Altas will also contribute more than €3 million per year to GDP.
