Capital Energy will supply renewable energy to Atlético de Madrid over the next three seasons
Within the framework of both entities’ firm commitment to sustainable development
- The energy company will be responsible for supplying the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, the sports cities of Majadahonda and Alcalá de Henares, the club's Foundation and the club’s official stores in the Region of Madrid
- The 9.5 gigawatt hours (GWh) of clean energy that Capital Energy will supply to Atlético de Madrid each year is equivalent to the average consumption of 4,000 Spanish homes and will prevent the emission of around 3,800 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere
- Capital Energy and Atlético de Madrid announced, on 6 July, a sponsorship agreement through which the company will be the main logo on the front of the training shirts for the first men’s team, and Atlético’s Academy for all national and European competitions
Madrid, 26 October 2021.- Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company founded in 2002 with the aim of becoming the first vertically-integrated 100%-renewable energy operator on the Iberian peninsula and Atlético de Madrid have today taken a new step that confirms their commitment to sustainable development.
Both entities, which last July sealed an agreement through which Capital Energy became an official sponsor of Atlético de Madrid, have agreed that the company will supply renewable energy to all the club’s facilities for the next three seasons.
Capital Energy will therefore be responsible for supplying clean electricity to the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, the sports cities of Majadahonda and Alcalá de Henares, the club's Foundation and the club’s official stores in the Region of Madrid.
It should be noted that the approximately 9.5 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy that Capital Energy will supply to Atlético de Madrid each year is equivalent to the average consumption of 4,000 Spanish homes and will prevent the emission of around 3,800 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
This agreement is part of the sustainability initiatives that the energy company and the football club announced they would promote following the signing of the sponsorship. Along the same line, they continue to study different ways of collaboration that are expected to see the light of day over the coming months.
Douglas Medrisch, Operating Business Director at Capital Energy, said, “we are very pleased to have signed this 100%-renewable energy supply agreement with Atlético de Madrid, which aligns with our basic objective as a company committed to a green and fair transition: to bring the clean electricity we produce in our wind farms and solar plants to our end customers”.
For his part, Iñigo Aznar, Commercial Director of Atlético de Madrid, said, “we are delighted with the agreement signed with Capital Energy. For Atlético de Madrid, this association represents a firm commitment to promote the development of sustainable projects, innovation and commitment to renewable energies”.
Official renewable energy sponsor of Atletico de Madrid
After becoming the official renewable energy sponsor of Atlético de Madrid, Capital Energy will be the main logo on the front of the training shirts of the first men’s team and of the Academy for all national (League, Cup and Super Cup) and European (UEFA Champions League) competitions.
Furthermore, the company’s corporate image is present on the LED ring of the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium and press backings during all of the League and Copa del Rey matches, as well as, among other things, an exclusive area for activities at the stadium’s fan zone.
