Capital Energy’s Corporate Venturing fund is launching its two first pilot projects with the companies Voltaware and Liight
- Capital Energy’s two first initiatives for the fund are centred on encouraging home energy efficiency and sustainable behaviour within the Company itself.
Madrid, 30th October 2020. The Corporate Venturing fund of the 100%-renewable energy company Capital Energy, known as Capital Energy Quantum, and presented under a month ago by the Company, has already launched its first pilot projects with the companies Voltaware and Liight.
Specifically, these are two start-up initiatives that are centred on encouraging home energy efficiency as well as sustainable behaviour within the Company itself. Voltaware has a white label data analysis platform based on a machine learning algorithm that processes information about electricity consumption, disaggregating it by appliances with a view to better comfort and safety in the home and enabling better electricity bill management.
In the case of the pilot project, 50 Capital Energy employees were selected to install the sensor and the personalised service in their home and obtain real feedback about the interest in and usefulness of the idea. Meanwhile, Liight is a company that has designed an application that, using gamification, tracks different activities (like recycling, walking, cycling and using public transport, etc) that gives liights that make it possible to compete in various challenges and get redeemable rewards.
The pilot project consists of the launch at corporate level, in Capital Energy’s Serrano and Pozuelo offices, of a series of private challenges for employees, both as individuals and in groups, that last between two and three weeks, with the ultimate goal of creating sustainable behaviour within the Company.
Start-ups to transform the energy sector
The Capital Energy fund has €20,000,000 to identify a portfolio of start-ups with the potential to transform the energy sector, reach agreements and invest in them over the next five years. To do so, it has reached agreement with 7r Ventures, a holding company for technology companies based in Madrid. The renewables Capital Energy will provide Capital Energy Quantum with its in-depth knowledge of the energy sector, access to its assets and infrastructure and also to its extensive customer portfolio, so that the selected start-ups can take advantage of it. It will also stimulate the possibility of developing solutions that can easily be integrated into its retail arm and, therefore, accelerate its landing on the market.
For its part, 7r Ventures will make its experience in Venture Capital and Corporate Venturing available along with its extensive capability for business analysis, its own methodologies and its talent network to help Capital Energy Quantum to identify, collaborate with and invest in start-ups that will define the future of the energy sector in Spain.
