Capital Energy starts construction of its first wind farm in Andalusia: Loma de los Pinos

• The renewable energy facility, located in the province of Seville, will have an installed power of 39 megawatts (MW) and its development involves an investment of €36,000,000.
• The seven wind turbines in the first Capital Energy wind farm in Andalusia will be capable of supplying clean energy to some 40,000 homes and will prevent the emission of more than 41,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
• In the municipal district of Lebrija, Loma de los Pinos will have an annual financial impact on the local coffers, and also through leasing agreements, of more than €250,000.

Seville, 9th December 2020. Capital Energy, a Spanish energy Company founded in 2002 with the vocation of becoming the first vertically integrated 100%-renewable energy operator on the Iberian Peninsula, continues to move forward to ensure the development of its clean energy project with the start of construction on its first wind farm in Andalusia. The renewable energy facility, located in the province of Seville, will have an installed power of 39 megawatts (MW) and its development, which is forecast to last a year, involves an investment of €36,000,000.

The seven wind turbines in the first Capital Energy wind farm in Andalusia will be capable of supplying 103,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy, equivalent to the consumption of around 40,000 homes in the region, and also preventing the annual emission of more than 41,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Loma de los Pinos wind farm, in the municipal district of Lebrija, will stimulate the creation of more than 220 direct jobs during the peak periods of its construction. In the operation and maintenance phase it will also give permanent jobs to eight professionals from the area.

Moreover, the plant will have an annual economic impact on the local coffers (mainly property tax and trade tax), as well as from lease agreements, of more than €250,000. €500,000, which is the one-off payment for the tax on construction, installations and building works (ICIO), can be added to this recurring sum.

Apart from Loma de los Pinos, Capital Energy currently has 20 renewable energy projects in Andalusia, 15 wind and 5 solar, spread over six of the eight provinces. All together they total over 1,120 MW, all with access to the network, and their development will involve a global investment of approximately €900,000,000.

First 100%-renewable energy Spanish operator

Capital Energy has put a business plan in motion that forecasts making investments of more than €10 billion for 13 gigawatts (13 GW) of operational renewables in 2025 and developing one of the largest project portfolios, mainly wind but also solar, in Spain and Portugal: 30 GW power, of which more than 6.5 GW already have access licences granted.

Recently, due to the launch of its retail arm, Capital Energy reached its strategic aim of being present on the entire renewable energy value chain in 2020: from development, where, given its 20-year history, the Company has a consolidated position, to construction, production, storage, operation and supply. The aim is to bring the 100%-renewable energy that it is already producing at its facilities to the end consumer.

The Company’s process of growth can also be seen in its team, which has gone from 30 people to more than 280 in the last two years, working in 12 offices in Spain and Portugal. Capital Energy envisages ending this year with around 300 employees, with this number growing to approximately 450 in 2021.
