Green light for five wind farms in Western Asturias
- The Principality accepted four applications from Green Capital for Coaña, Boal and Allande.
Green Capital Power, one of the most active wind farm developers in Asturias over the past few years, has obtained authorisation from the Principality to process the projects for four new wind farms in western areas. All of them are projects that involve the installation of large wind turbines, with installed power of more than 3 MW, and at least 130 metres tall.
Green Capital's projects total 97.5 MW divided amongst 26 wind turbines to be installed at two sites in Allande, one in Coaña, and another in Boal.
The Principality has, therefore, passed decisions on five of the applications submitted most recently by the wind farm developers for new complexes in the west, where the winds are the best for wind energy generation and where the 19 wind farms that are already operational are located.
The aggregate power of these new projects (128.55 MW) will increase current production capacity by almost 25%. According to calculations by the regional Administration, the community has the capacity for electricity transmission (high voltage) to be able to triple wind sector power in the west.
