Capital Energy has strengthened its commitment to Soria and secured nine more Territories Projects linked to its infrastructure in the province
The agreements are tied to the development of the Pedrecha, San Cristóbal, Hazapierna and Praderas Altas wind farms and their evacuation infrastructures
- This initiative combines the company’s contribution to the decarbonisation of the economy and the transformation of the energy model, by implementing renewable energy facilities, with its desire to help foster the development of the regions, harnessing local talent and nurturing their social, industrial and business fabric
- The construction of these four wind farms would create over 810 direct jobs during peak periods and unlock an investment of around 235 million euros. During the operating and maintenance phase, they will provide permanent employment to around 22 professionals from the local area and also generate more than 15 indirect jobs
Soria, 2 February 2023.- Capital Energy, a Spanish energy company founded two decades ago with the aim of becoming the Iberian Peninsula’s first vertically integrated, fully renewable operator, strengthens its commitment to the socio-economic development of Soria, a strategic province for the implementation of its clean energy project.
The company has entered into nine new partnership agreements with the town councils of Velilla de los Ajos, Cañamaque, Viana de Duero, Soliedra and Morón de Almazán in Soria and Terrer, Bordalba, Bubierca and Ateca in Aragon, all of which are linked to its Territories Projects and the development of several of its renewable infrastructures in the province. This initiative combines the Group’s contribution to the decarbonisation of the economy and the transformation of the energy model with its desire to help promote the development of different territories, harnessing local talent and nurturing their social, industrial and business fabric.
Under these agreements, Capital Energy undertakes to develop —from the construction of the Pedrecha, San Cristóbal, Hazapierna and Praderas Altas wind farms, the 132 kilovolt (kV) high voltage line (HVL) that will connect the Hazapierna and Medinaceli substations and the 400 kV HVL that will connect the Pedrecha and Terrer substations— several actions agreed between the parties and which will meet the needs of the abovementioned municipalities.
All the initiatives will be implemented within the framework of specific guidelines, including the improvement of infrastructure and services, connectivity and digitalisation, protection of artistic and cultural heritage, education, health and socio-occupational integration of disadvantaged groups. In fact, a number of beneficial proposals are already being weighed up for the residents of these towns, such as installing self-consumption systems in Cañamaque; building new sports facilities in Terrer; improving telecommunications in Bordalba; restoring the hermitage of Nuestra Señora Esperanza in Bubierca; renewing local roads in Viana de Duero; upgrading municipal buildings in Soliedra; strengthening the energy efficiency of municipal buildings in Ateca and extending the Provincial Museum of Costume in Morón de Almazán.
Likewise, the collaboration between the local governments and the renewable energy group will persist in the operating and maintenance phase of these infrastructure assets, as they will continue to carry out initiatives that fulfil the aforementioned requirements. These agreements enable Capital Energy to reiterate its interest in contributing to the sustainable development of Velilla de los Ajos, Cañamaque, Viana de Duero, Soliedra, Morón de Almazán, Terrer, Ateca, Bordalba and Bubierca, through actions that ensure an effective improvement in the quality of life of the local residents and the surrounding area.
The agreements are linked to the development of our wind farms in the region
Pedrecha, San Cristóbal, Hazapierna, and Praderas Altas, and their evacuation infrastructure
Investment, employment and clean energy for the province of Soria
The San Cristóbal wind farm will be situated in the Soria towns of Nolay, Velilla de los Ajos, Bliecos and Serón de Nágima and will have a capacity of 49.5 megawatts (MW). This renewable energy facility will be capable of generating around 170,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of upwards of 65,000 households, and of avoiding the emission of more than 60,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Pedrecha, located in the municipalities of Maján, Cañamaque, Serón de Nágima and Velilla de los Ajos, will also have a capacity of 49.5 MW, enabling it to produce around 160,000 MWh per year, which is sufficient to satisfy the consumption of over 60,000 households in Soria. It will also avoid the atmospheric emission of nearly 60,000 tonnes of CO2.
Hazapierna will have an access capacity of 49.5 MW. This wind farm, situated in Viana de Duero, Nepas and Coscurita, will be able to supply some 165,000 MWh annually and cover the energy needs of roughly 65,000 households, while avoiding the emission of around 60,000 tonnes of CO2.
Lastly, Praderas Altas, which is located in the municipalities of Viana de Duero, Nepas, Coscurita and Escobosa de Almazán, will have a capacity of 49.5 MW and will be able to generate upwards of 160,000 MWh of clean energy per year. This wind farm will prevent the emission of approximately 60,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere and will supply 63,000 households each year.
The construction of these renewable assets will create 810 direct jobs during peak periods and unlock an investment of more than 235 million euros. During the operation and maintenance phase, Pedrecha, San Cristóbal, Hazapierna and Praderas Altas will provide permanent employment to around 22 local professionals and generate more than 15 indirect jobs.
These renewable facilities will generate, annually and over the course its useful life, a fiscal impact of more than 650,000 euros on the local coffers, which will also receive the one-off payment of local building tax (ICIO) and other taxes, of close to 8.5 million euros. They will also contribute more than 4.5 million euros per year to GDP.
The HVL connecting the Hazapierna and Medinaceli substations will supply the grid with clean energy generated by the Hazapierna and Praderas Altas wind farms, as well as other wind farms, and will cross the municipalities of Taroda, Almaluez, Coscurita, Escobosa de Almazán, Nepas, Soliedra, Morón de Almazán, Arcos de Jalón and Medinaceli. Similarly, the HVL linking the Pedrecha and Terrer substations will evacuate the renewable electricity produced by a 148.5 MW wind power cluster consisting of the likes of Pedrecha and San Cristóbal and will run through Serón de Nágima, Torlengua, Velilla de los Ajos and Cihuela, in the province of Soria, and Bordalba, Embid de Ariza, Cetina, Contamina, Alhama de Aragón, Bubierca, Ateca and Terrer, in the province of Zaragoza.
These new agreements entered into by Capital Energy in the province of Soria, and tied to the commissioning of the abovementioned wind farms and their evacuation infrastructures, come in addition to those already concluded with the councils of other towns involved in these and other projects, such as Cubo de la Solana, Arcos de Jalón, Serón de Nágima, Torlengua, Taroda and Almaluez, thereby underscoring the company’s intention to go beyond the intrinsic benefits of its clean energy facilities.
